Brand & web studio
North Lane is a small studio that shapes identity systems, websites and launch material for founders. We work in short, focused engagements, and we leave you with something your own team can keep running.
Capabilities
Most engagements are one of these, or one followed by another. We scope them separately so you are never paying for work you did not ask for.
A name held together by a wordmark, a type pairing, a palette and the plain rules for using them. Small enough to remember, complete enough to hand to a new hire.
Design and build for marketing sites that need to load fast, read clearly and be edited without a developer on standby. Content structure first, decoration last.
The material that carries a launch past week one: announcement copy, sales one-pagers, product photography direction and the templates to keep making more.
Approach
Four stages, agreed in writing before we begin. You see work in progress every week, so nothing arrives as a surprise at the end.
A working session with the people who already know the business. We collect what you have, listen to how you describe it out loud, and write down the version we heard.
Two routes, not ten. Each one shown in context — a page, a document, a product shot — so you are choosing between outcomes rather than between moodboards.
The chosen route gets drawn out to every size and state it needs, then built. Weekly reviews, one shared list of open questions, no long silences.
Files, guide and a walkthrough with whoever will use it next. We stay reachable for a month afterwards so the first round of real-world edits goes smoothly.
Selected work
A short sample rather than a full archive. Each of these started with a business that had outgrown the way it described itself.
A regional food supplier with eleven product lines and eleven different looks. We built one label system flexible enough to cover all of them and simple enough for their in-house designer to extend.
Now shipping every new line without a design brief.
Sixty pages of technical documentation reduced to a site a buyer can actually navigate, with a structure their team maintains themselves.
Editing moved in-house within a fortnight.
A rehearsal-space business opening a second location. We wrote the announcement, set the photography direction for both rooms, and left behind a small kit of templates so the team could keep the look consistent as they posted through opening month.
One launch voice across every channel, produced without us.
The studio
North Lane is a compact team of designers and writers who like the awkward early part of a project — the part where nobody agrees yet on what the business is called or what it promises. We take a handful of engagements at a time so the people you meet in the first session are the people doing the work.
Questions
The things founders ask in a first call, answered here so the call can be about your project instead.
Anything that can be finished in two to eight weeks with one decision-maker involved. That covers a first identity, a marketing site rebuild, or a launch kit. Very large multi-team programmes are usually a poor fit for a studio this size, and we will say so early rather than stretch.
You see the written version of what we heard in the first week, and the first design direction in the second. After that, there is a review every week until handover.
Yes. We are remote-first and keep a shared written record of every decision, so most of the work does not depend on being online at the same moment. Live sessions are booked in a window that suits your team.
You own the files and the guide outright. We stay reachable for a month for questions and small fixes, and plenty of clients come back later for a separate, separately scoped piece of work.
Start a brief
A few sentences is enough to begin. We read every enquiry ourselves and reply with either a suggested scope or an honest note that we are not the right studio for it.
